  5.     Want to hear the sound of Jabba the Hutt laughing as if he
  6. were sitting next to you on the couch? Or how about listening
  7. to the rumble of the giant boulder in Temple of Doom bearing
  8. down on you? Filmmaker George Lucas and his soundmeister
  9. Tomlinson Holman claim that such aural thrills can be provided
  10. by their new home sound system, called THX. Holman, an
  11. audio-design engineer who created the THX (Tomlinson Holman
  12. Experiment) system widely used in theaters, has crafted a
  13. six-speaker home version that provides distortion-free sound at
  14. high volume and gives listeners the impression that the sound
  15. is surrounding them. The system will play standard videotapes
  16. and videodiscs as well as specially enhanced products.

  18.     Pure sound is not cheap. The top-of-the-line system unveiled
  19. at the Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago last week will cost
  20. about $8,000. Quips Holman: "It's a natural for people who are
  21. nesting or who don't want to buy an RV." Some individual THX
  22. components, which will be built in the U.S. and Japan, will be
  23. available later this summer.
